The latter is the clearest live demand signal: an Etsy listing for that exact combination is marked Best Seller and “in 20+ carts.” Do not lead with a generic dice tower or a full legacy-game insert: both are mature, price-compressed categories.

Findings: 3D-printed functional goods

FDM is the correct default for desk organization, cable routing, wall mounts, tool storage, EV-cable brackets, and tabletop organizers: parts need toughness, heat tolerance, large build volume, economical iteration, and screw/clip strength. Use PETG/ASA where heat, garages, or outdoor/vehicle exposure matter; PLA is acceptable only for indoor, low-heat organizers. Resin is a poor fit for load-bearing cable clips and utility brackets because brittleness and post-processing erase its surface-detail advantage. Reserve resin for small, detailed miniatures, decorative knobs, and terrain scatter.

Current Etsy signals favor device-specific and “problem-specific” FDM products over generic organizers: an IKEA VARMBLIXT lamp-holder/cable-management listing, Octopus Home Mini mount, EV plug dock, and Dremel-bit organizer STL are all currently indexed. The desk/cable niche is crowded at the generic level; target a named device, furniture ecosystem, or exact cable/charger geometry.

Etsy and channel conditions

  • Etsy’s seller policy changed after the version effective through 2026-07-08; review the current policy before each new SKU, especially handmade/production-partner representation and IP claims.
