Passive Income Opportunity Scan

Date: 2026-08-31
Cadence: Weekly
Scope: Fresh autonomous or low-touch revenue experiments. Excludes OpenClaw promotion to non-technical users, direct FinPipe/QuantPipe monetization, and projects already in active development.

Executive summary

I reviewed all prior files in reports/opportunities/, including GitcheGumi's embedded notes. The durable filter is useful and blunt: favor automated fulfillment, real customer utility, narrow tests, the existing GitchPage/Etsy footprint, and boring physical goods when the economics work. Avoid guru-style persuasion, invented problems, generic AI wrappers, undifferentiated template/STL catalogs, and scaling before paid validation.

This week's strongest fresh tests are (1) a royalty-bearing practical 3D-design pilot through Makr3D, (2) a local-only Compose recovery-plan generator funded by Sponsors plus paid policy packs, and (3) a homelab backup restore-drill article/toolkit with only genuinely tested affiliate referrals. The first can remove printing and shipping; the second is a credible open-source wedge; the third can drive useful blog interaction while monetizing products the audience may actually need. Revenue ranges are scenario estimates, not forecasts.

Findings

1. Makr3D royalty catalog of practical replacement designs

Upload a deliberately narrow family of original, practical designs—cable-routing saddles, generic tool-battery shelf dividers, hose guides, and non-branded spacer blocks—and allow outside sellers to list them while Makr3D prints, checks, packs, and ships. Makr3D says creators can earn a per-unit cut without distributing source files. This is materially different from last week's self-fulfilled replacement-part line: the asset earns royalties and avoids owning printers or inventory.

Validation gate: quote and physically verify three designs, confirm US shipping economics and payout terms, then allow only one reseller channel until ten clean orders. Effort: 1–2 weeks; roughly 85% automated after QA. Revenue: $50–$1,000/month if several generic SKUs gain repeat sales. Agents: DesignGumi, ResearchGumi, MarketGumi, human fit QA.

2. Printlooper multi-seller royalty pilot

Test Printlooper's designer/seller/supplier model with one original 3MF design that has clear dimensions, commercial terms, and a printable test coupon. Its stated model separates designer upload from seller listing and supplier fulfillment, creating royalty exposure across multiple sellers without maintaining duplicate storefronts.

Validation gate: verify identity, fee, refund, IP-removal, and payout processes before upload; stop if source-file controls or seller listing quality are unclear. Effort: 4–7 days plus one physical proof; 90% automated. Revenue: $25–$600/month. Agents: DesignGumi, MarketGumi, ReviewGumi.

3. Compose recovery-plan OSS utility plus paid policy packs

Create a local CLI that reads Docker Compose files and emits a recovery plan: service dependency order, persistent volumes, backup targets, restore commands with placeholders, health-check checkpoints, and a redacted runbook. It never reads secret values or uploads configuration. Keep the engine open source; monetize through GitHub Sponsors and one-time policy packs for media stacks, game servers, and small business services.

Why fresh: last week covered drift detection. This solves disaster-recovery documentation, a distinct operational job with an obvious test: can a clean host be rebuilt from the runbook? Validation gate: complete two isolated restore drills and reach 50 repeat users before selling any pack. Effort: 2–3 weeks; 90% automated. Revenue: $0–$900/month. Agents: CodeGumi, SysGumi, ReviewGumi, ScribeGumi.

4. Homelab backup restore-drill benchmark plus affiliate toolkit

Publish a first-hand GitchPage benchmark comparing a few backup approaches on restore time, encryption, off-site behavior, retention, and total cost. Pair it with a free restore-drill worksheet and an optional paid printable/runbook pack. Only include a disclosed referral where the service was actually tested and recommended; Soteria currently advertises 20% lifetime commission, while Bytesized advertises 10% lifetime recurring.

Fit: it answers a real homelab need, can invite readers to submit restore times in comments, and avoids generic “best hosting” sales copy. Validation gate: test one complete backup and restore per included service and require 100 engaged visits or ten worksheet downloads before a sequel. Effort: one week plus quarterly verification; 75% automatable. Revenue: $25–$700/month. Agents: SysGumi, ResearchGumi, ScribeGumi, SocialGumi.

5. Affiliate-disclosure audit plugin for WordPress

Build a small local/server-side plugin that finds affiliate links in draft posts and flags missing nearby disclosures, stale program names, broken destination URLs, and unsupported rel attributes. The basic checker stays free; sell site-wide scheduled scans, exportable audit reports, and policy presets through a marketplace such as WPBay, which advertises licensing, updates, payments, and up to 88% creator share.

Validation gate: test against 20 exported posts and obtain five real publisher audits before charging. It must make no legal-compliance guarantee. Effort: 2–3 weeks; 95% automated. Revenue: $100–$1,500/month. Agents: CodeGumi, ReviewGumi, MarketGumi, ScribeGumi.

6. Seller-side 3D print quote-normalization utility

Build a stateless tool that converts quotes from print fulfillers into a comparable unit-cost sheet: material, weight, machine time, setup, QA, packing, shipping zone, failure allowance, marketplace fee, and target margin. Export CSV/JSON; do not scrape logged-in portals. Sell it as a one-time desktop/PWA license or low-cost API to small 3D-product sellers.

Why now: Makr3D recently opened ungated quoting, making it easier to validate the workflow without supplier contracts. Validation gate: normalize 30 real quotes from at least three sources and prove results match hand calculations. Effort: two weeks; 90% automated. Revenue: $100–$1,200/month. Agents: CodeGumi, DesignGumi, ReviewGumi.

7. Pattern outcome review pages with VibeCrochet referrals

Create a tiny GitchPage series that evaluates purchased crochet patterns after a real human completes them: clarity, stitch-count accuracy, yarn usage, photo usefulness, accessibility, and actual completion time. VibeCrochet advertises 25% per referred pattern sale and a 30-day cookie, but the article must remain useful without a link and must clearly disclose the relationship.

Validation gate: buy and complete one pattern before applying; continue only if the page receives meaningful search traffic or reader questions. Effort: 3–5 editorial hours plus human crochet time; 70% of publishing is automatable. Revenue: $10–$300/month. Agents: ResearchGumi, ScribeGumi, SocialGumi, human maker.

8. Maker product-photo QA card deck

Sell an instant-download printable/mobile card deck for physical sellers: measurement shot, scale reference, material close-up, underside, packaging, color disclaimer, defect example, and compatibility diagram. Include a local checklist generator and variants for crochet, 3D prints, and craft-fair goods. This is not another broad maker template bundle; it is a narrow pre-listing error-prevention tool.

Validation gate: run it on ten existing listings and measure whether it catches missing evidence. Launch one $7–$12 product and expand only after five sales. Effort: 3–5 days; 95% automated fulfillment. Revenue: $25–$500/month. Agents: DesignGumi, MarketGumi, ScribeGumi.

9. UEFN creator-operations asset pack

Create original, genre-neutral UEFN utility assets rather than game IP: accessible HUD-safe-zone guides, device-label icons, playtest issue cards, versioned publishing checklists, and thumbnail composition grids. The UEFN Marketplace advertises REST API and MCP surfaces for account and upload automation, which could keep catalog maintenance low.

Validation gate: confirm seller eligibility, commercial terms, and Epic policy; test every asset in the current editor before listing. Effort: 1–2 weeks; 95% digital fulfillment. Revenue: $50–$800/month. Agents: DesignGumi, CodeGumi, MarketGumi, ReviewGumi.

10. Public storefront-payout verification dataset

Maintain a sourced dataset that records digital/agent marketplaces' seller share, listing fees, payout rail, minimum payout, refund handling, geography, last verified date, and whether a test payout succeeded. Publish a useful free table; monetize downloadable history, change alerts, and a small API through a marketplace that can handle billing. This is not another affiliate directory: the product is operational seller-risk evidence.

Validation gate: verify 30 platforms from first-party terms and complete three low-dollar payout tests before charging. Do not label untested claims as verified. Effort: 2–3 weeks, then 2–4 hours/week; 85% automated. Revenue: $50–$1,000/month. Agents: ResearchGumi, CodeGumi, ReviewGumi.

11. 3D-print farm packing-slip and batch-label microservice

Offer a narrow API/PWA that accepts a sanitized order CSV and returns print-ready batch labels, filament/color grouping, quantity checks, packing slips, and a QR-coded exception sheet. It stores nothing by default and supports an offline mode. Target small farms that have outgrown handwritten sorting but do not need full ERP software.

Validation gate: process 500 synthetic orders and one consenting shop's redacted export; charge only after it reduces packing errors or time by 20%. Effort: 2–3 weeks; 95% automated. Revenue: $100–$1,500/month. Agents: CodeGumi, DesignGumi, MarketGumi, ReviewGumi.

12. Finished-crochet repair/refresh service kits

Sell standardized kits for maintaining finished crochet household goods: matching repair yarn, blunt needle, stitch markers, care card, and QR-linked repair instructions. Pair them only with the shop's own finished goods or sell generic color-family kits without claiming an exact match. The kit is simpler and more repeatable than bespoke repair work, though assembly and shipping remain human.

Validation gate: create three color families, wash-test materials, and measure full packing labor. Stop if ten orders cannot clear the maker's minimum hourly rate. Effort: one week sampling; 25% automated. Revenue: $50–$500/month. Agents: DesignGumi, MarketGumi, human maker.

Recommended 30-day sequence

  1. Week 1: Validate Makr3D's US shipping, payout, licensing, and refund terms; submit instant quotes for three boring functional designs. In parallel, outline one real homelab restore drill.
  2. Week 2: Build the Compose recovery-plan CLI against two non-sensitive stacks and perform the first clean-host restore. Draft the restore benchmark from measured results.
  3. Week 3: Publish the free restore worksheet and invite readers to share restore times. Release one maker photo-QA deck only after using it on ten listings.
  4. Week 4: Choose one commercial experiment based on evidence: royalty design if fulfillment economics work, or the recovery utility if it gets repeat users. Do not launch both paid offers simultaneously.

Guardrails

  • Do not enroll, publish, connect a wallet/Stripe account, list inventory, or accept marketplace terms without explicit user approval.
  • Marketplace seller shares and payout claims are marketing claims until verified in current terms and, ideally, a small successful payout.
  • Use original designs and assets. Avoid trademarks, fan art, unsupported compatibility claims, and redistribution of licensed models.
  • Human testing is mandatory for crochet, print fit, restore procedures, and physical-product care claims.
  • Affiliate links require prominent disclosure and genuine product use; editorial conclusions remain independent.
  • Tools that inspect files must default to local processing, redact secrets, and collect no data unless explicitly enabled.
  • Revenue ranges are gross scenarios before fees, refunds, taxes, labor, compute, materials, and shipping.

Source-quality note

Several surfaced marketplaces are young, thinly documented, or self-report their economics. I therefore ranked concrete product ideas above platform hype and attached hard validation gates. Makr3D and Printlooper are promising because they may remove fulfillment, but neither should receive valuable source files until licensing, takedown, refund, territory, and payout behavior are understood. The affiliate ideas are secondary to useful content and should be abandoned if testing does not produce a recommendation worth making.
