Passive Income Opportunity Scan

Date: 2026-09-15
Scope: Fresh, low-overhead revenue experiments the agent team can research, build, publish, monitor, and market with limited human intervention. Excludes OpenClaw promotion to non-technical users, direct FinPipe/QuantPipe monetization, and projects already known to be in active development.

Executive summary

I reviewed all existing reports in reports/opportunities/ through 2026-08-31. The durable notes are: favor automated fulfillment, the existing GitchPage/Etsy footprint, narrow tested catalogs, practical products, and low-support tools; physical crochet is human production, not passive; avoid generic APIs, content farms, sales-heavy offers, undifferentiated STL/template stores, and repeats of prior link monitors, Compose tools, generic maker memberships, or broad affiliate directories.

The strongest fresh candidates are (1) a public web-policy inspection API, (2) a release-evidence OSS utility with paid CI policy packs, (3) a maker listing-image QA subscription, (4) parametric packaging dieline kits, and (5) yarn-tool adapters with digital CAD licenses. Revenue estimates are directional first-year gross scenarios, not forecasts. Each opportunity has a stop gate to prevent premature expansion.

Findings

1. Public web-policy inspection API

Build a stateless endpoint that accepts a public URL and returns a normalized summary of robots.txt directives, sitemap declarations, canonical URL, noindex/nofollow signals, security.txt presence, and published AI-crawler directives. Fetch only minimal public metadata; block private-network destinations; impose strict time/byte limits; cache results; label ambiguity.

Freshness/fit: The August 24 scan proposed feed capability detection; this answers whether and how an automated client should access a site. It is a narrow compliance primitive, not broad scraping. Cloudflare Workers currently offers a substantial free request allowance and inexpensive paid usage.
Validation gate: Test 1,000 domains and publish a free CLI; require 20 repeat external users or three prepaid customers before billing work.
Revenue: $50–$900/month. Agents: CodeGumi, ReviewGumi, MarketGumi.

2. Calendar-file hygiene API and local CLI

Create a deterministic validator for ICS files: malformed recurrence rules, missing time zones, accidental all-day events, duplicate UIDs, stale cancellations, invalid line folding, and suspiciously large payloads. Offer a free local CLI and paid endpoint; never retain calendar contents.

Freshness/fit: A bounded API with low compute and recurring utility, unlike prior broad document conversion ideas. It can ship as both a GitHub Action and metered endpoint without inference costs.
Validation gate: Test 250 public calendars and document 25 distinct reproducible defects; continue after ten weekly CI users or two paid integrations.
Revenue: $50–$700/month. Agents: CodeGumi, ReviewGumi, ScribeGumi.

3. Release-evidence OSS utility plus paid CI policy packs

Open-source a CLI that produces a compact release evidence bundle: artifact hashes, source commit, build timestamp, toolchain versions, license summary, and links to existing SBOM/provenance files. Verification stays local. Monetize through GitHub Sponsors and one-time CI policy packs.

Freshness/fit: Prior scans covered changelogs, dependencies, and Compose recovery; this focuses on evidence attached to downloadable releases. GitHub Sponsors supports one-time and monthly tiers.
Validation gate: Integrate with three repositories and reach 100 stars or 20 recurring CI users before producing paid packs.
Revenue: $0–$800/month; sponsorship is upside, not the business case. Agents: CodeGumi, SecurityGumi, ScribeGumi, ReviewGumi.

4. Maker listing-image QA subscription

Build a local-first or upload-and-delete service that checks Etsy/shop image batches for inconsistent aspect ratios, low resolution, unreadable overlay text, clipped products, duplicates, weak contrast, missing scale references, and absent dimension diagrams. Return a checklist/contact sheet; never publish automatically.

Freshness/fit: The August 31 scan proposed a physical photo QA card deck. Automated preflight turns a recurring internal problem into a low-compute subscription without becoming an image generator.
Validation gate: Score 200 existing images manually and measure precision. Offer a free five-image scan; charge after 20 repeat users and fewer than 5% materially wrong warnings.
Revenue: $100–$1,500/month. Agents: CodeGumi, DesignGumi, MarketGumi, ReviewGumi.

5. Local batch care-label composer

Create an offline browser app that imports SKU/material CSV data and generates print-ready care cards, fiber-content labels, stickers, gift inserts, and QR-linked care pages. Sell a one-time license plus template packs. Do not claim universal legal compliance.

Freshness/fit: Earlier reports proposed instruction sheets and crochet companion cards; this focuses on batch composition and consistent SKU data across many products, with no hosted customer data.
Validation gate: Generate labels for 50 mixed crochet/3D-print SKUs and test three paper sizes; require ten licenses before cloud sync or integrations.
Revenue: $50–$700/month. Agents: CodeGumi, DesignGumi, ReviewGumi, MarketGumi.

6. Parametric packaging dieline kits

Sell original SVG/PDF/DXF generators and presets for belly bands, mailer inserts, yarn-tag cards, spool sleeves, box dividers, and fold-flat cradles. Buyers enter dimensions locally and receive print/cut-ready files with calibration squares and tolerances.

Freshness/fit: This is not a generic SVG catalog: the value is dimension-driven packaging that eliminates repeated layout work. Etsy/Patreon can automate delivery; Stripe Payment Links can support direct checkout.
Validation gate: Start with three dieline families; test each on two printers and one cutter; launch six listings maximum and expand after ten sales without a fit-related refund pattern.
Revenue: $100–$1,000/month. Agents: DesignGumi, CodeGumi, MarketGumi, human print QA.

7. Filament spool tare-weight data product

Build a source-linked, community-correctable dataset of empty-spool weights, spool materials, dimensions, hub diameters, chip presence, and revision notes. Publish a free searchable subset on GitchPage; sell CSV/JSON snapshots, printable workshop cards, and clearly labeled sponsor slots.

Freshness/fit: The August 17 report covered material compatibility; this solves remaining-filament estimation and dry-box fit. Change detection can automate maintenance while human review protects accuracy.
Validation gate: Publish 100 verified records from ten manufacturers; charge after 250 monthly users, 25 downloads, or five inbound bulk-access requests.
Revenue: $25–$600/month. Agents: ResearchGumi, CodeGumi, ScribeGumi, ReviewGumi.

8. Homelab power-cost field guides with affiliate links

Publish first-hand GitchPage experiments measuring idle, peak, and monthly energy use for mini PCs, NAS devices, switches, UPS systems, and printers. Include a reusable calculator and methodology. Link only to meters, smart plugs, UPS units, or hardware actually tested; verify affiliate eligibility before publication.

Freshness/fit: Distinct from the prior backup restore-drill benchmark. Energy cost is measurable and evergreen, supporting useful search content without generic “best gear” copy. FTC guidance requires clear, hard-to-miss disclosures near endorsements.
Validation gate: Publish one complete seven-day study; continue after 100 engaged visits, 25 calculator uses, or one verified conversion.
Revenue: $25–$800/month. Agents: SysGumi, ResearchGumi, ScribeGumi, SocialGumi, human test owner.

9. 3D-print finishing durability lab with affiliate links

Run controlled tests of sanding sequences, fillers, primers, paints, coatings, adhesives, inserts, and surface prep across common filaments. Publish after-test photos plus downloadable lab cards. Affiliate links remain secondary to evidence.

Freshness/fit: Prior affiliate ideas centered on printer workflows and restoration; this creates original durability evidence and a repeatable quarterly series, with optional sales of test fixtures.
Validation gate: Complete one 30-sample round and disclose the protocol and failures; continue after 150 engaged visits, 30 card downloads, or two conversions.
Revenue: $25–$700/month. Agents: DesignGumi, ResearchGumi, ScribeGumi, SocialGumi, human QA.

10. Yarn-tool adapters and organizers

Design small measurement-driven 3D-printed accessories for crochet/yarn workflows: cone spindle reducers, ball-winder table protectors, hook-gauge stands, tension-ring trays, row-counter mounts, and WIP label clips. Offer finished multipacks plus separate commercial-use CAD licenses.

Freshness/fit: This joins crochet and 3D printing around practical workflow pain. One geometry family can generate dimension-specific SKUs; digital licenses provide the more passive margin. Physical fulfillment remains human work.
Validation gate: Observe three users, test three dimensions per family, and list no more than six SKUs until five orders have zero fit-related returns.
Revenue: $100–$1,200/month. Agents: DesignGumi, MarketGumi, ResearchGumi; human print/ship QA.

11. Finished-crochet visible-mending patch drops

Offer limited batches of original crochet patches and repair motifs for denim, bags, elbows, and small holes, with plain sewing instructions and optional matching thread. Use standardized shapes and seasonal palettes; avoid logos, characters, fan art, or unsafe claims.

Freshness/fit: Honors the preference for finished crochet while avoiding garments and sizing-heavy custom work. Small batches are easier to stock and ship than full items; repair articles can support tested-tool affiliates.
Validation gate: Produce 20 units across four designs, time every unit, and require gross margin above 65%; stop if customization/support exceeds one hour per ten orders.
Revenue: $75–$700/month, capped by human production. Agents: DesignGumi, MarketGumi, SocialGumi; human maker.

12. Interactive maker troubleshooting packs on Patreon

Sell downloadable decision trees for recurring problems: warped print corners, wavy crochet edges, dull product photos, and packaging tolerance selection. Each pack includes interactive HTML, a printable quick sheet, and an evidence log. Bundle three as a one-time purchase; optionally issue quarterly updates.

Freshness/fit: Not a generic template membership. It packages tested diagnostic knowledge in a more useful format than a static checklist. Patreon supports one-time digital products and membership integration, with no upfront listing fee.
Validation gate: Publish one free diagnostic and one paid three-pack; expand after ten purchases or 100 completed free flows.
Revenue: $50–$900/month. Agents: ScribeGumi, DesignGumi, ResearchGumi, CodeGumi.

Recommended 30-day sequence

  1. Week 1: Prototype packaging dielines and one troubleshooting flow; physically test every output.
  2. Week 2: Run listing-image QA internally and compile the first 100 spool records. Do not expose customer uploads yet.
  3. Week 3: Release either the calendar validator or release-evidence CLI. Add Sponsors only after the repository is useful and documented.
  4. Week 4: Complete one energy or finishing test and schedule a small social batch. Apply to affiliates only after the article stands alone without links.

Priority: packaging dielines → listing-image QA → release-evidence CLI → yarn adapters → evidence-based affiliate content. Advance no more than two items into active development simultaneously.

Risks and guardrails

  • Active-project collision: Before implementation, compare winners with the current project board and repositories; this scan deduplicated against prior opportunity reports.
  • External claims: Search snippets, press releases, marketplace statistics, and commission claims are discovery evidence, not demand proof. Verify current terms at launch.
  • Affiliate compliance: Use tested products and prominent disclosures near recommendations. Never inject, replace, or silently rewrite affiliate links.
  • Privacy/security: Prefer local processing. For uploaded images, calendars, or URLs, minimize collection, enforce deletion, publish retention terms, and block private-network access.
  • Physical QA: Human fit tests, material checks, timing, truthful lead times, and shipping are mandatory.
  • IP: Use original CAD, copy, photos, and graphics. Avoid trademarks, unsupported compatibility claims, copied patterns, and unlicensed assets.
  • Platform dependence: Keep source files and exports portable. Verify fees, payouts, tax handling, and product rules before listing.
  • Stop rules: No catalog expansion, subscriptions, cloud sync, or paid infrastructure until the stated gate is met.

Source-quality note

The web-search provider hit its hourly rate limit during secondary affiliate discovery, and several marketplace pages blocked automated fetches. This report therefore avoids unverified commission percentages and demand claims. Validate current program availability and terms directly before enrollment. Revenue ranges are price × small-customer scenarios, not reported averages.
